Emergency drivers for LED troffers and panels are compact, reliable backup systems designed to fit seamlessly with these common commercial fixtures. Essential for maintaining safety in offices, schools, hospitals, and retail spaces, these emergency drivers ensure that your 2x2 and 2x4 troffers or slim flat panel lights provide immediate, code-compliant illumination during a power failure, lighting the path to safety.
How Fixture Design Dictates Emergency Driver Selection
The physical design of your fixture—whether it's a deep troffer or a slim panel—is the most important factor in selecting the right type of emergency LED driver and installation method.
- For LED Flat Panels: Due to their ultra-slim design, flat panels have no internal space for additional components. The emergency backup must be mounted externally (e.g., on the back of the panel). For this reason, the best solution is a high-voltage emergency backup. These external units typically come with a length of flexible conduit to protect the wiring running from the backup to the fixture's junction box.
-
For LED Troffers: Traditional volumetric or center-basket troffers have a deeper housing with a driver compartment, providing more flexibility:
- Internal Mounting: If there's enough space inside the fixture, you can install a low-voltage DC output driver. These models typically use flexible flying leads for easy connections inside the fixture's wiring channel, creating a completely independent backup system.
- External Mounting: If the troffer is a slim model or you prefer to mount the backup externally, a high-voltage emergency backup is the correct choice. Like the panel-mount versions, these are often supplied with flexible conduit for a protected, professional installation.
