Is the STL-COB-WW-16 truly wet-rated or damp-rated?

The STL-COB-WW-16 is IP54 rated, which means it is splash-resistant and suitable for damp locations. It is NOT wet-rated for direct water exposure or submersion. IP54 protection allows installation in bathrooms, covered outdoor areas, and locations where it may encounter water splashes, but it should not be installed in areas with direct water spray, rain exposure, or submersion. For fully wet-rated applications, consider American Lighting's IP65 or IP67 rated tape light options.

Can the STL-COB-WW-16 be installed outdoors uncovered vs covered?

The STL-COB-WW-16 with IP54 rating should only be installed in covered outdoor locations protected from direct rain, snow, and weather exposure. It is suitable for covered patios, eaves, pergolas with roofing, and other sheltered outdoor areas. It should NOT be installed uncovered or exposed to direct weather elements. For uncovered outdoor installations, you need a higher IP rating (IP65, IP66, or IP67).

Is the LED replaceable on this tape light?

No, the LEDs are not replaceable. The COB (Chip-on-Board) LEDs are permanently integrated into the flexible circuit board. However, with American Lighting's 5-year warranty and long LED lifespan (typically 50,000+ hours), the tape light is designed to last many years. If a section fails within warranty, American Lighting will replace the defective portion. The tape can be cut at designated marks, so if one section fails outside warranty, you can cut out and replace just that segment.

Does the STL-COB-WW-16 require a separate LED driver or power supply?

Yes, the STL-COB-WW-16 requires a separate 24V DC LED driver (power supply) to operate. It does not include a built-in driver. You must purchase a compatible 24V constant voltage LED driver separately, sized appropriately for the total wattage of your installation. Calculate total wattage based on length (watts per foot × total feet), then select a driver with at least 20% additional capacity. American Lighting offers compatible 24V drivers, or you can use any UL-listed 24V constant voltage LED driver.

Can the STL-COB-WW-16 be dimmed, and what type of dimmer is required?

Yes, the STL-COB-WW-16 is fully dimmable when paired with a compatible dimming system. You need three components: (1) a dimmable 24V LED driver, (2) a compatible LED dimmer (0-10V, PWM, or TRIAC depending on your driver), and (3) proper wiring between dimmer and driver. The dimmer must be rated for LED loads and compatible with your specific 24V driver. Standard incandescent dimmers will NOT work and may damage the tape light or driver.
