Showcase Your Masterpieces with Picture Lights & Art Lighting

Picture lights are the secret weapon of interior designers, used to transform a flat wall into a dynamic focal point. By providing dedicated art lighting, you draw the eye to your paintings, photographs, and tapestries, enhancing their colors and textures. Whether you are lighting a single family portrait or a hallway full of collectibles, our collection offers the perfect painting light solutions to create a museum-quality display in your own home.

LED Picture Lights: Safe & Vibrant Gallery Lighting

When illuminating art, safety is just as important as style. LED picture lights are the superior choice for preserving your collection. Unlike traditional incandescent bulbs, LED art lights emit virtually no UV rays and very little heat, both of which can fade paint and damage canvas over time. Additionally, our LED fixtures offer a high Color Rendering Index (CRI), ensuring that the blues, reds, and yellows in your art look true to life, not washed out.

Plug-In Picture Lights vs. Hardwired Options

We offer versatile installation methods to suit your space.

  • Hardwired Art Lights: These connect directly to your home’s electrical system, hiding cords behind the wall for a clean, seamless look. This is ideal for permanent displays and new construction.
  • Plug-In Picture Lights: If you don't want to cut into drywall, a plug-in picture light is the perfect solution. These mount easily to the wall or frame and plug into a standard outlet, making them excellent for renters or quick upgrades.

Picture Light Styles to Match Your Frames

The art light fixture should complement the artwork, not distract from it.

  • Modern Picture Lights: Featuring ultra-slim profiles and minimalist designs, these work well with photography and contemporary prints.
  • Traditional & Brass: For oil paintings with ornate frames, a brass picture light or antique bronze finish adds a touch of classic elegance and sophistication.

Sizing Your Art Light Fixture

Achieving the perfect look requires the right proportions. A common rule for gallery lighting is to choose a fixture that is approximately half to two-thirds the width of the artwork (excluding the frame). This ensures the light spreads evenly across the canvas without overpowering the piece or leaving the edges in shadow.

Illuminate Your Masterpieces with Quality Art Lighting

At Bees Lighting, we understand that your art collection is personal and precious. That’s why our collection of picture lights is curated to offer the best in both aesthetics and preservation. From sleek LED art lights that protect your investments to classic brass fixtures that add a touch of library chic, we have the right solution to make your walls come alive.

Give your home gallery the professional treatment it deserves. If you need assistance sizing your fixture or choosing the right finish, call our lighting specialists at 855-303-0665.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the right size picture light?

A general guideline is to select a light that is roughly 50% of the width of the artwork (not including the frame). For very wide pieces or landscape orientations, you may need a light that is up to 2/3 of the width to ensure even coverage across the entire canvas.

Why should I use LED lights for artwork?

LED picture lights are highly recommended because they do not emit ultraviolet (UV) rays or significant heat. UV rays and heat can cause irreversible damage, fading, and cracking to oil paintings, watercolors, and photographs. LEDs are the safest way to illuminate your art.

Where should the picture light be mounted?

Most picture lights are mounted on the wall directly above the frame. However, some "frame-mounted" styles attach to the back of the picture frame itself. The light head should be adjusted (tilted) so the beam strikes the center of the art at an angle (usually 30 degrees) to minimize glare.

Do I need an electrician to install these?

If you choose a hardwired picture light, yes, you will typically need an electrician to run wires behind the wall. However, plug-in picture lights are DIY-friendly; you simply screw the mounting plate to the wall and plug the cord into the nearest outlet.

Are your picture lights dimmable?

Many of our hardwired and integrated LED options are dimmable. Dimming is an excellent feature for art lighting, allowing you to control the intensity of the highlight to match the mood of the room or the time of day. Check the specific product specifications for dimmer compatibility.
