Can I install RadioRA 3 myself?

RadioRA 3 is a "pro-centric" system. While the hardware can be physically installed by an electrician or capable DIYer, the programming software requires completion of Lutron's training certification (available online) to unlock. What is the difference between RadioRA 2 and RadioRA 3?

The biggest difference is the hardware style and setup. Lutron RadioRA 3 introduces the Sunnata design (touch light bars) which was never available for RA2. It also uses a new, more powerful processor and allows for faster setup via a new App-based workflow.

Is RadioRA 3 compatible with older RadioRA 2 devices?

Yes. This is a major feature. The RA3 processor speaks both the new Clear Connect Type X frequency (for Sunnata) and the older Clear Connect Type A frequency. This means you can keep your existing Maestro dimmers, Pico remotes, and shades and simply upgrade your processor and main area switches.

Do RadioRA 3 dimmers require a neutral wire?

Yes. The Sunnata RF dimmers and keypads generally require a neutral wire to function. This allows them to be more stable and support the LED light bar features. If you have an older home without neutrals, you can still use Maestro RF dimmers within the RadioRA 3 system.

How many devices can a RadioRA 3 system handle?

A single RA3 processor supports up to 100 devices. You can add a second processor to expand the system to 200 devices. This is typically sufficient for homes up to 7,500 square feet.

Does RadioRA 3 work with HomeKit and Alexa?

Yes. The RadioRA 3 processor has built-in integration for Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Sonos, and professional control systems like Control4 and Crestron.

Can I use Sunnata dimmers without RadioRA 3?

You can use the wired standalone Sunnata dimmers (STCL-153M) without a system. However, the Sunnata RF (Radio Frequency) dimmers and Keypads are exclusive to the RadioRA 3 system and will not work with Caseta or as standalone smart devices.

What internet speed do I need for RadioRA 3?

The system itself runs on a local RF network, so your lights will work instantly even if the internet is down. An internet connection is only required for the initial setup, app control, timeclock synchronization, and remote access.

Can I control shades with RadioRA 3?

Yes. RadioRA 3 integrates natively with Lutron's automated shading solutions, including Sivoia QS Wireless and Triathlon battery-powered shades. You can control them from the App, Pico remotes, or Sunnata keypads.
