Incandescent Dimmer Switches

Incandescent dimmers work with both incandescent and halogen bulbs to lower the light level for different purposes. Standard incandescent dimmers work by lowering the input voltage to the bulb. All incandescent and halogen bulbs are dimmable which makes them ideal for dimming. Using preset incandescent dimmers help save energy and improve the bulb's rate life by regulating the light output. Single pole and 3-way incandescent and halogen dimmers can be used in residential and commercial lighting solutions.

Incandescent and Halogen Dimmers

Dimmer switches for incandescent and halogen bulbs come in different colors like white, ivory, light almond, brown and black to match the wall plate or wall decoration. Incandescent dimmers also have various operation types that include preset dimmers, slide dimmers, paddle dimmers, tap switch dimmers and rocker dimmers.

Single Pole vs 3-Way Incandescent Dimmers

Single pole incandescent dimmers are installed in a location like a room with a single entrance/exit and the light is controlled from one switch only. 3-way incandescent dimmer switches allow for on/off operation in multiple locations but dimming operation comes from one switch only. Dimmers with 3-way wiring are installed in rooms with multiple entrances and exits and the light can be turned on from one end and turned off from the other. Even with multiple switches, the light level can only be controlled from one dimmer switch.
