What is a footcandle?
A footcandle is the illuminance on a one square foot surface from a uniform source of light. Footcandles are the unit of measurement of light intensity used by lighting professionals to calculate the light levels for offices, work spaces, retail stores, buildings and parking lots. Getting the appropriate footcandle level is necessary to ensure a sufficient amount of light is provided for an area, while still maintaining energy efficient guidelines.
